Things that don't suck: Remembering segregation

It really wasn't that long ago that segregation existed. It's such an alien concept to me, that sometimes I forget that we're really not that far removed from a time where this was considered normal. How ridiculous.

It's Friday. I'm not getting any work done today.

While I certainly agree that slavery and segregation are wrong, and I'm glad we're making progress in the right direction, however slowly, I don't think of them as alien, inexplicable concepts. I've actually got an interesting thought experiment along these lines, but I can't think of any way to put it that won't be inflammatory. There's just too much negative emotion involved (quite understandably).

What do you think about Damon Wayans' trademark battle? I think a word only has power if you believe it does.

Damn! I was just about to start the process to trademark "honky."

Did you see the tribute to Vernon Baker during NBC's coverage of the closing ceremonies? Nicely done. I can't find anything about it on NBC's site, but here is a brief writeup. I found it with Google's new search engine, Gaygle.

Wow. See, now that's exactly the type of story more people need to hear. Thanks for posting that, I hadn't read it.
